About Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research, Dresden

The Leibniz-Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) is a non-university research institute devoted to fundamental and applied research and development, with particular emphasis on the fields of superconductivity, magnetism, thin films and nanostructures. The research program is focused on functional materials, both in bulk and thin films. In an interdisciplinary approach it combines fundamental research in physics, chemistry and material science with the specific needs of technological application. Furthermore, the IFW Dresden is engaged in the training of young scientists and staff trained in technology. The Institute supplies R&D know-how and experience to companies and public institutions.
