Sabancı University is a new university in Istanbul, Turkey, distinguished by its emphasis on interdisciplinary research and its promotion of innovative education programs. The ICAM branch at Sabancı extends to collaborations with other Turkish researchers. Research areas include condensed matter theory, in particular mesoscopic systems, and experiment, in particular nanoscale transport; extreme condensed matter in neutron stars; protein synthesis and function, self-organization in proteins and applications to synthetic polymers; materials science, in particular surfaces on meso- and nanoscales; superhydrophobic surfaces; molecular biology, plant genetics and computational biology; computer science, in particular pattern recognition, neural networks and machine learning. Sabancı University is actively interested in problems of education through the involvement of its students and faculty in voluntary projects.
