Department Description

The Petroleum Institute was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a world-class institution in engineering education and research in areas of significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy industries. The establishment of a Gas Processing and Material Science Research Centre ( “GRC”) was officially launched at the Petroleum Institute in December 2010. The Centre is the outcome of a R&D agreement by GASCO, ADNOC, Shell Abu Dhabi B.V., Total S.A., and Partex Gas Corporation. The GRC is owned by and integrated in the Petroleum Institute. Funding for the development of the GRC comes through annual contributions during 20 years by the three International Shareholders (“ISH”) Shell, Total and Partex. The GRC is committed to develop technology and capabilities through applied research in natural gas engineering and energy management.

Brief Posting Description

The GRC Department at The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi is seeking application for Joint Chair Professor. The candidate should have a PhD in chemical, mechanical engineering or a related field, be recognized internationally, has an exceptional academic and industrial experience with a demonstrated track record in technology development and capable of building up the experimental program in the state of the art equipped research laboratories. Other responsibilities include supervising several applied research projects that meet the business requirements for the GASCO, teaching graduate courses, supervise post doctorate and research associates, advice graduate/undergraduate students and actively participating in both university and professional societal activities. The candidate should also have the ability and experience to initiate and lead academic and industrial teams, establish international and regional research collaboration programs with the Oil & Gas industrial partners, national laboratories and international research institutes. In general, candidates are expected to bring distinction to the PI and serve as key contributors to achieving its strategic goal of having a World-Class Gas Research Center.

Candidates applying to this position should have expertise in one of these fields:
1)Advanced dynamic process simulation & control
2)Energy efficiency and environmental technology
Background knowledge of gas processing is desirable.

Qualifications:

PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related fields with extensive experience in academia or industry of relevance to the above required expertise.

Salary/Benefits:

The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities; transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel. Applicants must be in excellent health and will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
