The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of August 2016. The successful candidate should have a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology and will have earned a Ph.D. in one of these or a closely related subject. Specific areas of interest include the control and engineering of cellular systems (e.g., in microalgae, cyanobacteria and/or bacteria) for the production of high value chemicals such as carotenoids, enhanced lipid or protein content, etc.

Candidates should have a strong academic record reflecting innovative, interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to research. The Chemistry Department has close ties to the Center for Applied Energy Research, the Department of Biology, the College of Pharmacy, and a number of research centers focusing on the life sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with relevant research groups in these units and will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in biochemistry and organic chemistry.
Interested applicants should submit five documents: a letter of application (Cover Letter); a curriculum vita (Curriculum Vita); a detailed description of research plans (Specific Request 1 – please visit the website for the Center for Applied Energy Research, http://www.caer.uky.edu, and describe how you could benefit from and support the ongoing research activities at CAER); description of space and facility needs (Specific Request 2 – please describe your research space and major instrument access requirements); and a statement of teaching philosophy and teaching interests (Specific Request 3 – please list the specific courses that you would be interested in teaching as well as any new courses you would be interested in developing. Also provide the names and contact information for at least three references when prompted in the academic profile. This information will be utilized to solicit recommendation letters from your references within the employment system.

Initial consideration of applications will begin Oct. 14, 2015. The application deadline is November 25, 2015.
