Brown University seeks a distinguished scholar in Engineering to assume the newly created Hugh W. Pearson Family Professorship in Technology and Entrepreneurship. Candidates at the level of Associate Professor (with or without tenure) or Full Professor (with tenure) will be considered. This endowed chair will be an important component of the Brown program in technology entrepreneurship and innovation management. The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of scholarly achievements commensurate with a chaired professor of Engineering. In addition to strong engineering credentials, ideal candidates will have substantial experience in areas such as entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology management. The chair will participate in research and instruction within the Brown School of Engineering; this requires that alongside the faculty member’s entrepreneurship educational activities, the chair-holder will establish an innovative, extramurally funded research program within the School. The Pearson Chair will be a vital addition to a forward-thinking team of engineering faculty who engage in innovative research on breakthrough technologies (e.g. advanced materials, biotechnology, energy, environment, information technology, nanotechnology, and photonics). In addition, the holder of the Pearson Chair is expected to have a demonstrated commitment to academic leadership in fields related to the existing master’s degree Program in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. Our desire is to connect scholarly activities in entrepreneurship and innovation to teaching and practice. Therefore, excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching is essential. A doctorate (or equivalent) in a field of engineering (or related discipline, including technology entrepreneurship) is required, as is a track record of significant scholarly publication.
All candidates should submit a CV with a cover letter. Expectations for the various levels of appointment, and instructions for additional materials to be submitted are:
Associate Professor, tenure-track or with tenure: Candidates should have an outstanding record of research accomplishment, scholarly achievement, an established record of external funding, and concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field of engineering science and also entrepreneurship. Candidates should provide the names of 5 references whom the search committee may contact directly.
Professor, with tenure: Candidates should have an exceptional record of research accomplishment, scholarly achievement, a record of sustained external funding, with concomitant nationally or internationally recognized leadership in their field of engineering science, in conjunction with a commitment to scholarship in entrepreneurship. Candidates should provide the names of 5 references whom the search committee may contact directly.
All application materials should be submitted online through: https://secure.interfolio.com/apply/30383.
The search committee will begin to review applications on September 15 and will continue until the position is filled or the search is closed.
