Position Overview

Salaries for full-time Professors are governed by the Academic Employees Collective Agreement.  For detailed information on the faculty salary evaluation criteria, please refer to the “Job Classification Plans for positions in the Academic Bargaining Unit” section of the Academic Employees Collective Agreement (page 117).

The Technology and Visual Arts academic area is seeking a full-time Professor for the Mechanical Engineering Technology programs. As a faculty member at Georgian College you will have the opportunity to apply your passion for teaching and share your rich industry experience by creating a supportive and effective learning environment which allows students to achieve their full academic potential. Duties include but are not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities

  Designing, updating and delivering a wide variety of courses in the Mechanical Engineering Technology programs
  Defining / evaluating / validating program and course learning outcomes
  Ensuring program and course curricula are current, relevant and reflective of best practices in the field by participating in community organizations and professional associations and other scholarly activities
  Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
  Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of our students’ cultures, educational backgrounds and learning styles.
  Participating in department, portfolio / school and college-wide activities / task groups as required
  Developing alternative delivery strategies, and online course development and teaching, as required
  Working in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college
  Fulfilling responsibilities as defined in the Academic Employees Collective Agreement

Qualifications


Required:

  A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Science, OR licenced or eligible for licensure as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  A minimum of five years of related practical experience in industrial/mechanical and related applications
  Previous teaching experience at a postsecondary level and/or adult training experience
  Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  Proven ability to contribute to, and work in, a positive team environment and to foster the same in their students
  Commitment to life-long learning
  Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations
  Computer literacy: Microsoft Office Suite, computer aided design (CAD) software, computer aided manufacturing software, industrial simulation software


Additional Asset / Preferred:

  Experience in an industrial tooling design and automation fabrication environment
  Experience with online course development and / or online teaching
  An excellent record of performance meeting student learning needs (i.e. performance evaluations)
  Experience in all of the following: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  Computer literacy: Learning Management System / Web Delivery Software (i.e. Blackboard) and Student Information Systems
  The skills, knowledge and ability to teach in more than one subject or related program area
